John Wallis Academy Awarded High Commendation

The John Wallis C of E Academy has been awarded a High Commendation by Ashford Borough Council in the category of 'Contributions to the Community'.

The very best examples of building design and place-making were shortlisted for their high quality and the positive contribution they make to the local environment.

John Wallis consisted of a new General Teaching wing and a new Theatre Block alongside extensive refurbishment of the existing buildings.

The awards were attended by shortlisted entrants and the Leader of Ashford Borough Council, Cllr Gerry Clarkson; the Planning Committee Chair, Cllr Mick Burgess; Chief Executive, Tracey Kerly; and the Mayor of Ashford, Cllr George Koowaree, who handed out the awards.

Cllr Mike Bennett said: “By officially recognising the very best in design and architecture at a local level the council is helping to build a reputation for high standards in the borough and inspiring others to come up with bold and innovative plans.

“Making quality buildings and fine places means a lot to the council so it was particularly pleasing to celebrate the achievements of those who architects and developers who were shortlisted. Quality is the key in all our thinking as we develop an exciting borough for future generations.”

Construction begins on Quest Academy in Rugby

We are pleased to announce that our Quest Academy project has begun construction on site in Rugby. The Academy will host 80 special educational needs (SEN) pupils over two storeys. The building will also cater for Sixth Form students as well as spaces for specialist art rooms, science, IT and Design & Technology. A Sports Hall and Dining form the shared spaces of the school. The project is due for completion August 2019 in time for the 2019/20 school year.

Hunters South Architects are delighted to announce that we have been nominated for Architectural Practice of the Year at this years Education Estates Awards. We are also delighted to announce that our ELAM (East London Arts and Music) project has been nominated for 3 awards including, Innovation in Teaching and Learning, Pupil/Student Experience and also Project of the Year. Well done to all the team and we look forward to the awards on the 16th of October.
